Summer Safety Starts with Smart Habits

Summer is here, which means more time outdoors, family activities, and fun in the sun. It also means paying extra attention to a few simple health habits.

💧 Stay Hydrated

Hot weather can lead to dehydration quickly. Drink water throughout the day, especially if you're exercising or spending time outdoors. Watch for signs like dizziness, headaches, fatigue, or dark urine.

🧴 Protect Your Skin

Daily sunscreen is one of the easiest ways to reduce your risk of skin cancer. Choose SPF 30 or higher, reapply regularly, and consider hats, sunglasses, and protective clothing when spending extended time outside.

👟 Don't Forget Foot Protection

For individuals with diabetes, walking barefoot on hot sand, pavement, or around pools can increase the risk of burns, cuts, and infections. Wear protective footwear and check your feet regularly for any injuries.

A Note from Dr. Abby

Summer should be about making memories—not managing preventable health problems. Staying hydrated, protecting your skin, and caring for your feet can help keep you healthy all season long.

If you have questions about diabetes, thyroid conditions, hormones, or other endocrine concerns, we're here to help.

Wishing you a safe and healthy summer!
